Protection programming centers on awareness, safe referral, community dialogue and support for local organizations already doing this work.
This includes safe spaces where survivors of gender-based violence can find peer support, information about their rights, and referral to legal, health and psychosocial services.
Prevention work runs alongside it: legal literacy, violence-prevention education in schools and communities, and engaging men and boys as allies accountable to the women and girls around them.
We also support community organizing and advocacy that addresses the discrimination, poverty and harmful norms behind violence, not only its consequences.
